Scott Baker – Texas Rangers
Scott Baker, another former Minnesota Twin farm system product, has barely pitched 60 innings since the 2011 season, a result of Tommy John surgery in April 2012. After the club elected to decline his massive $9.5 million option for 2013, Baker was left unemployed but somehow managed to snag a $5-plus million deal with the Cubbies.
One year later and Chicago had paid Baker over $333k per inning (15 innings in 2013), leaving a sour taste in their mouths and again Baker was left seeking work.
After signing a low-risk, virtually unknown deal last winter with Texas, Baker has bounced between the minors, bullpen and briefly the starting rotation, struggling in each spot and leaving many wondering if his MLB career is dwindling.
