World-class sprinter Usain Bolt can literally fly in the sky. If he had a wingsuit. And if he was on one of Saturn’s moons. While Bolt is one of the fastest people on Earth, his ferocious speed would allow him to fly on Saturn’s moon, Titan. Physics students at the University of Leicester crunched some numbers and declared that if Bolt reached a speed of 12.27 metres per second, (which he has done on several occasions) it would be fast enough for him to leave the ground on Titan while wearing a regular wingsuit. Once the world-record sprinter was in the air he would then be able to soar into the nitrogen-rich atmosphere, without any need for propulsion. The findings were for the students’ final year paper for the Journal of Physics Special Topics, a student journal run by the University’s Department of Physics and Astronomy. Now actually getting to Titan, which is 790,100,000 miles away, does pose a slight issue.
