Take that sports nerds.
1) Some NBA Teams Are UPSET – The NBA Playoffs have started and already some teams that were supposed to have won, did not. The Los Angeles Lakers are one of them and the San Antonio Spurs are the other. Both teams were expected to win, however the Lakers lost to the Hornets and the Spurs lost to the Grizzlies. It is ok because to move on the winner needs to be the first to win 4 games, which means it is still early. Don’t hesitate to exclaim today: Damn Lakers and Spurs cost me big this weekend. Last time I bet on a first round game.
2) Blanking The Blackhawks? – The NHL Playoffs are moving right along and the team who won the championship last year (called the Stanley Cup) is on the brink of being eliminated. The Chicago Blackhawks are down (in a best of 7 game series), 3 games to none and look like they will be eliminated by the Vancouver Canucks (the Canucks are favored to win, but it is still a big deal when the reigning champion loses). It is cool to say: Damn, the Blackhawks lost too many good players this past off-season to make a legitimate run at the Cup again.
3) NFL = No Football League? – So what is actually going on with the NFL right now? The NFL is currently “technically” not planning on having a football season this year because the players are arguing with the owners over a few big issues which won’t allow each side to sign what is called a “Collective Bargaining Agreement.” It is a fancy name for a contract between players and owners. The main issue has to deal with the large amount of money that the NFL makes from TV rights and other sources of revenue… It needs to be split between the players and the teams however they can’t come to an agreement over the percentages each gets. So essentially you have millionaires (players) arguing with billionaires (owners) over how to split up that gigantic pile of cash. Kind of funny, huh? Sort of, however if they don’t figure it out there won’t be a football season. A judge has now ordered both sides to do mediation. Bunch of little bickering babies if you ask me. Always cool to say: If they take away the NFL season next year over this sh*t, I will be crushed.
