Giants 20- Redskins 6
In this meaningless game, the biggest stories are about the coaches. Mike Shannahan got fired, while the 67 year old two time Super Bowl winning Tom Coughlin may just retire. Both coaches refused to comment on their future with their respective teams but insiders say they both have enticing offers from Del Boca Vista, and Shady Acres.
Packers 33- Bears 28
This shootout for the division title and a playoff berth came down to the last minute of the game when Aaron Rodgers threw a 48-yard game winning touchdown to Randall Cobb. This game proved entertaining to watch because both teams were more inept at stopping the runs than using Ex-Lax as a coffee creamer.
Denver 34- Raider 14
Peyton Manning threw four touchdowns to set the single season passing touchdown record at 55. I’m sorry if that was not clear, Manning threw 55 touchdowns this year, he did not break the record at age 55, although he was close. The Broncos also set the record for points in a season. The Denver offense was so prolific that even the scoreboard operator received a performance bonus.
Patriots 34- Bills 20
The Patriots got another big game from LaGarrette Blount who rushed for 189 yards and two touchdowns as the Patriots clinched the second seed in the AFC. Alright we get it, Tom Brady and Bill Belichick have created an unmatched dynasty in an era of the NFL when parity reigns supreme. Enjoy your perennial playoff berth Bostonians, I’m sure you appreciate how good you have it.
Saints 42- Buccaneers 17
Before Sunday’s game was over the Saints actually had a chance of missing the playoffs had they lost to the Buccaneers. Behind Drew Brees the Saint did however clinch a wild card spot and a chance to make it to the Super Bowl on the road. The Saints have struggled on the road this year going 3-5, while winning all eight of their home games. The Saints feelings about the road are much closer to Bob Seger’s Turn the Page, than Willie Nelson’s On the Road Again.
49ers 23- Cardinals 20
The Cardinals needed to beat the 49ers and the Buccaneers to beat the Saint in order to make the playoffs, and neither happened. The Cardinals finish with ten wins in Bruce Arians first season and missed the playoffs, while the 49ers head to Lambeau next week to take on the Packers. It hard to tell who is more disappointed, the Cardinals, or the Packers who lost 45-31 to the 49ers in the 2012 playoffs.
Seahawks 27- Rams 9
In their third attempt, the Seahawks clinched the NFC west title and home field advantage throughout the playoffs. Home field advantage is huge for the Seahawks who some would claim have the best home field advantage of any NFL franchise. The Seahawks fans are known as the twelfth man, and they impact every home game. Not only are the Seahawks faithful loud, if you have ever seen the Waynans Brothers classic film, The 6th Man, you know how meaningful that extra help can be.
Eagles 24- Cowboys 22
The Eagles clinched the NFC East when they beat the Tony Romo-less Dallas Cowboys. After a disappointing season, Dallas fans are completely lost since they cannot blame this loss on Romo.
