Xander Schauffele was recently crowned the champion of the PGA Championship and has emerged as a legitimate star on the PGA Tour, but it sounds like he recently admitted that he at least considered leaving the Tour to join LIV Golf.
During a recent interview with The Times, Xander Schauffele revealed that he has had talks with LIV Golf in the past, but they “fizzled out” after he decided the Saudi-backed league was simply not the direction he wanted to take his career.
“It’s funny, my friends used to send me screenshots of me as the favourite to join LIV,” Schauffele told The Times. “The odds were solely based on me not commenting much, but actions speak louder than words. I’ve shown up to play PGA Tour events week in, week out. I love my job, this is where I’m at, and I don’t really see myself going anywhere else. I had to at least sit down and listen to what was being offered.
“But once I realised it wasn’t really going to fit in with how I envisioned my career, it just fizzled out.”
Obviously, things have worked out well for him since he decided to remain on the Tour.
