Former U.S. Open winner Jon Rahm came into this week eager to claim his second victory in the event at Pinehurst Resort and Country Club. But unfortunately, he will not be competing in the event as planned due to an injury aggravated at a recent LIV Golf event.

Rahm was forced to withdraw from the LIV Houston event this past weekend due to an infected sore in between his pinky toe.

Despite this, he made the trip to North Carolina to test out his foot and see if there was any way that the sore got any better ahead of his Round One tee time on Thursday.

That did not happen after consulting with “several doctors” and his team, which led to Rahm ultimately withdrawing from the event, which he announced on social media Thursday.

After consulting with numerous doctors and my team, I have decided it is best for my long-term health, to withdraw from this week’s US Open Championship,” wrote Rahm in a post on X, formerly known as Twitter. “To say I’m disappointed is a massive understatement! I wish all my peers the best of luck and want to thank all of the USGA staff, volunteers, and community of Pinehurst for hosting and putting on what I’m sure will be an amazing championship! Hopefully I’ll be back in action sooner than later!”

Naturally, many fans were dreading this news considering his injury.

This is obviously an incredibly disappointing decision for Rahm. Especially when you consider Rahm’s recent string of struggles as of late at majors. His most recent major at the PGA Championship last month resulted in a missed cut for the former No. 1 ranked player in the world.
