Tiger Woods Tiger Woods reacts to his putt on the seventh green during the second day of the PGA Championship at Valhalla Golf Club on Friday, May 17, 2024.

For more than two decades, Tiger Woods has been the biggest star in professional golf. But after missing the cut at the U.S. Open this week, he admitted a pretty brutal truth: that could have been the last time he ever played at the event.

Following his elimination from the U.S. Open on Friday, Tiger Woods admitted that there is a chance that it could have been the last time he ever competed at the U.S. Open.

“I thought I played well enough to be up there in contention. It just didn’t work out,” Woods said after he was officially eliminated from the tournament, according to Reuters.

“As far as my last Open Championship or U.S. Open Championship, I don’t know what that is. It may or may not be.”

Woods was granted a special exemption to take part in the U.S. Open this year, but he did not exactly perform well. Woods carded a three-over-par 73 that left him at seven over par for the tournament, causing him to miss the cut.

Obviously, it’s shocking to even think about professional golf without Woods participating, but it sounds like the legendary golfer is at least realistically considering moving toward retirement.
