The attempted assassination attempt of presidential candidate Donald Trump on Saturday shook the nation in a way we haven’t seen as a country in quite some time. And one of the many affected by this incident was star golfer Tiger Woods.

Woods was en route to Scotland in preparation for the upcoming Open Championship, which is set to kick off on Thursday morning. In a conversation with BBC, Woods revealed how everyone on his flight was watching the coverage, which led to a long and sleepless night for him.

“It was a long night,” said Woods. That’s all we watched the entire time on the way over here. I didn’t sleep at all on the flight, and then we just got on the golf course.”

Trump is of course a very public figure in the golf world. Many of his golf courses rank amongst the best in the entire country, which has of course led to Woods and Trump playing numerous rounds of golf together over the years.

Back in 2019, Trump even honored Woods with the Presidential Medal of Freedom, commonly recognized as the highest civilian award in the country.

Any assassination attempt on a presidential candidate like we saw on Saturday is obviously a horrifying reality for the entire country. But for Woods, it is even worse considering he has a good relationship with the former president.

Hopefully, this lack of sleep doesn’t affect Woods in his upcoming tournament. At the moment, Woods is currently a longshot to win The Open Championship, sitting at around a 200-1 underdog in the event.
