Tiger Woods Syndication: The Courier-Journal

The golf world was devastated when Tiger Woods confirmed that he’d suffered another major injury. Woods was already dealing with a body that has let him down in recent years, but on Tuesday, he confirmed more horrible news.

“As I began to ramp up my own training and practice at home, I felt a sharp pain in my left Achilles, which was deemed to be ruptured. This morning, Dr. Charlton Stucken of Hospital for Special Surgery in West Palm Beach, Florida performed a minimally-invasive Achilles tendon repair for a ruptured tendon.

“‘The surgery went smoothly, and we expect a full recovery,’ added Dr. Stucken. I am back home now and plan to focus on my recovery and rehab, thank you for all the support,” Woods tweeted out.

On Wednesday morning, ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith was highly critical of Woods at this point of his career on his popular debate show, First Take.

“To me, Tiger Woods is a recreational golfer at this point… walking the 18-hole course is not something he can do anymore and that has been the case for years.”

Fans reacted to Smith’s words on social media.

“The most resilient athlete in my lifetime when it comes to recovering from numerous injuries. I’ll never count this man short,” one fan wrote on Twitter.

“Careful … Tiger’s son may walk up to you and get in your grill. Then you can go on ESPN and say you understand and grovel like a sad puppy. Then go on Gil Arenas’s show and act hard about it,” another fan added, reference Smith’s recent spat with Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James.

“Kinda like how Steven’s just a recreational journalist saying dumb (stuff) every day,” one fan added.

It’ll be interesting to see if Woods has one more miracle recovery left in him.
