On Sunday afternoon, Scottie Scheffler clinched his sixth victory of the season when he won the PGA Tour’s Travelers Championship in a sudden-death playoff over Tom Kim. But the victory came after a pretty strange situation.
During the final hole on Sunday, six protesters ran onto the course in protest of climate change. While police reacted swiftly and removed the protesters, Scottie Scheffler admitted that anytime something unexpected happens like that, it can “kind of rattle you a little bit.”
“From my point of view, they got it taken care of pretty dang fast, and so we were very grateful for that,” Scheffler said after the tournament according to ESPN.
“When something like that happens, you don’t really know what’s happening, so it can kind of rattle you a little bit. That can be a stressful situation, and you would hate for the tournament to end on something weird happening because of a situation like that. I felt like Tom and I both tried to calm each other down so we could give it our best shot there on 18.”
Obviously, Scheffler was able to bounce back from the distraction as he won the tournament championship. But it was still quite a shocking situation.
