Last week, PGA Tour superstar Rory McIlroy shocked a lot of golf fans when he declared that he thinks LIV Golf players should be free to return to the PGA Tour without facing any penalty for leaving. But it doesn’t sound like everyone agrees with that.
This week, PGA Tour star Scottie Scheffler admitted that he does not think it would be a popular decision to allow LIV Golf stars to simply return to the PGA Tour “like nothing ever happened,” as he called out many LIV Golf players for the way that they left the PGA Tour.
“You had some guys that left our tour and then sued our tour,” Scheffler said at the WM Phoenix Open according to ESPN. “That wasn’t really in great taste.
“Then you had some other guys that just left and they wanted to do something different. Everybody made their own decision and I have no bad blood towards the guys that left. But a path towards coming back, I think it wouldn’t be a very popular decision, I think, if they just came back like nothing ever happened.”
Scheffler said that he would certainly be in favor of a path that would allow LIV Golf players to return to the PGA Tour, but he doesn’t think it should be easy and without any caveats.
“I think there should be a pathway back for them, but they definitely shouldn’t be able to come back without any sort of contribution to the tour, if that makes sense,” Scheffler said.
