PGA Tour superstar Rory McIlroy has dealt with a lot of stress professionally as the PGA Tour and LIV Golf formed a rivalry and are now working on a sort of alliance, and now it sounds like he’s dealing with some significant stress in his personal life as he is separating from his longtime wife.
According to a report from TMZ Sports on Tuesday, Rory McIlroy has filed for divorce from his wife, Erica, ending their marriage after about about seven years.
“Court records show the 35-year-old golfer submitted the documents in Florida on Monday … some seven years after the couple first tied the knot,” TMZ Sports wrote on Tuesday.
“Reasons for the breakup were not made immediately available. We’ve reached out to McIlroy’s attorney for comment, but so far, no word back yet.”
McIlroy and Erica met when she was working the Ryder Cup event for the PGA back in 2012. While the two were just friends initially as McIlroy was dating tennis superstar Caroline Wozniacki at the time, but they quickly became a romantic couple in 2014 after he and Wozniacki called off their engagement
The two eventually got married in 2017, but it sounds like that marriage is now coming to an end.
