It’s been a pretty stressful past few months for Rory McIlroy professionally as he tries to help reunify professional golf given the current rift between the PGA Tour and LIV Golf. But while he tries to unify the game of golf, it sounds like the opposite is happening in his personal life.

According to a report from TMZ Sports on Tuesday, Rory McIlroy has filed for divorce from his wife Erica as the two are ending their marriage after nearly seven years.

“Court records show the 35-year-old golfer submitted the documents in Florida on Monday … some seven years after the couple first tied the knot,” TMZ Sports wrote on Tuesday.

“Reasons for the breakup were not made immediately available. We’ve reached out to McIlroy’s attorney for comment, but so far, no word back yet.”

Obviously, this is some pretty horrible news for McIlroy as he is already dealing with a lot professionally, and it led to a lot of reactions on social media.

Rory and Erica first met back in 2012 but did not begin dating until 2014 after Rory and tennis star Caroline Wozniacki called off their engagement. Rory and Erica dating for a few years before marrying in 2017, but it sounds like that marriage is now over.
