Tiger Woods is undoubtedly one of the greatest golfers to ever play the game. But according to his longtime friend and fellow PGA Tour star Justin Thomas, that doesn’t exactly mean that Woods’ is the best reference when it comes to advice.

Woods comes into the 2024 PGA Championship at Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville, Kentucky with a decorated history of success at the event in the past, winning four PGA Championship tournaments over the course of his illustrious career.

Over the years, Woods has obviously learned some tricks and tips at just about every golf course that makes Tiger the player that he is.

However, Tiger may not be the best at relaying these tips to his fellow PGA Tour players, according to Thomas. Thomas did a recent interview discussing the upcoming PGA Championship at Valhalla, a course that was last played as a PGA Championship in 2014.

This was just a year into Thomas’ professional golf career. So naturally he wanted to get a better sense of the course from Tiger Woods. But according to Thomas, Tiger isn’t the best at relaying his tips about the course.

“I’ve talked to him plenty about Valhalla,” said Thomas. “As soon as I bring it up, he jokes that I was probably still in diapers, it was so long ago. I’ve asked him plenty and talked to him plenty. You feel like you want to get a notebook out and write down everything he says.

“You think he’s gonna give you this elaborate answer. But you see this a lot in coaching. Sometimes the best to ever do it are the worst at explaining how they did it. To him, it was very easy at the time. When he was going about it, it didn’t seem very difficult. But he was just better than everybody else. I don’t really get anything out of him if I try to.”

Woods did notably win the 2000 PGA Championship at Valhalla. So he obviously knows the course as well as anyone over the years. But it sure seems like his knowledge of the course may only be useful for himself…
