PGA Tour superstar Rory McIlroy was one of the loudest critics of LIV Golf for quite a long time, going as far as to say that players who left for the Saudi-backed circuit should face some punishment if they decide to return to the PGA Tour. But in a pretty shocking turn of events, McIlroy recently changed his opinion on that point, but not everyone seems to be with him.
During a recent interview, Rory McIlroy shockingly said that he no longer believes LIV Golf players should face any punishment if they choose to return to the PGA Tour, and fellow PGA Tour star Jordan Spieth offered his reaction to McIlroy’s stunning change of opinion, revealing that it’s not necessarily representative of everyone.
“I’ve asked a lot of players, I’ve done a lot of talking with a lot of players in the last couple months,” Spieth said. “That’s Rory’s viewpoint. I could name some guys with the same viewpoint, I could name some guys with a totally opposite viewpoint. So it’s certainly mixed on how players feel about that.”
Christiaan Bezuidenhout, meanwhile, said that he did not agree with the “180 turn” that McIlroy has made over the past several months, saying that he “wouldn’t want to see any of the LIV guys come back.”
So it’s clear that McIlroy’s change of opinion is somewhat controversial.
