Golf superstar Dustin Johnson was one of the many PGA Tour stars who decided to leave the tour for big money to play in the Saudi-backed LIV Golf. But PGA Tour board member Webb Simpson thinks that’s going to hurt his legacy.

During a recent interview, Webb Simpson said that he thinks Dustin Johnson had a chance to be one of the greatest players of all time, but now that he’s with LIV Golf, it won’t look that way in the record books.

“I love Dustin (Johnson), he’s a buddy of mine,” Simpson told Golfweek. “But he had the opportunity to go down as one of the top 10 greatest players ever, and as soon as he signed his name to LIV he still could be, but in the record books, we’ll never know.

“It’s not going to count. Things like that make me a little sad. But I’m not knocking the guys for going. I just think these young guys think about it differently, you know.”

Obviously, Johnson got heavily compensated for his decision to leave the PGA Tour and vault to LIV Golf. We’ll have to see whether or not the decision hurts his legacy in the long run, but Simpson clearly seems to think that it will.
