The below video features one of the most spectacular and bizarre buzzer beaters to ever happen in the sport of basketball. The basketball game was a Section 1 Class AA championship game between Mt. Vernon and New Rochelle and the fun started with only 2.9 seconds left on the clock with New Rochelle inbounding the ball and down by a score of 60-58. They inbounded the ball but the pass was stolen at half court by a Mt. Vernon defender who tossed the ball in the air thinking that it would be in the air long enough for time to expire, but it was a very poor miscalculation.
New Rochelle player Khalil Edney stole the ball back and threw up a half court prayer with .01 seconds on the clock and somehow it found its way through the basket. New Rochelle ended up winning 61-60.
“That is my first buzzer-beater on a 3-pointer in high school to win a game,” Edney said. “Winning a state football title was a great feeling, but this is just as good because of the way it happened.
