Many experts predict the Seattle Seahawks to win the Super Bowl. This pick contradicts conventional wisdom that says a team needs a proven elite QB to win a Super Bowl. Russell Wilson shocked most people with his rookie campaign, but any QB, say Cam Newton or Michael Vick, will tell you that a QB is not elite until he produces after defenses have an off-season to look deep into his NFL game film. Even if the Seahawks win the Superbowl, I do not think we’ll be asking if Wilson is an elite QB, but who is the best Super Bowl winning QB, Wilson, Trent Dilfer, or Brad Johnson?
The last time the Arizona Cardinals came close to a Super Bowl was with grandpa Kurt Warner at QB. Larry Fitzgerald must believe he can only win with a QB who has already retired once, and since Jamarcus Russell could not make weight, they went out and got Carson Palmer. Also Johnny Manziel got suspended for a half for kind of selling his autograph, but Fitzgerald got paid to do a commercial for University of Phoenix while he is still playing in University of Phoenix Stadium. Come on NCAA, there has to be a violation there.
We saw a lot of Colin Kaepernick this off-season, which is both good and bad. The bad is that I personally do not like the media obsessing over unproven commodities. Yes, he took the San Francisco 49ers to the Superbowl, but we do not know if the read option can hold up long term in the NFL or if it will go by the way of the Wildcat. If Kaepernick is for real, the 49ers have a dynasty on their hands with him and Jim Harbaugh. The good part of seeing a lot of Kaepernick was The Body Issue. No complaints here, a rockin’ bod is a rockin’ bod. End of story.
There was a great story about the triumph of the human spirit this summer. A person held captive for nine years finally got free and is now able to move on and inspire us all. No, it did not happen in Cleveland, it happened with the St. Louis Rams and Steven Jackson. With the loss of their only viable fantasy football starter since the Greatest Show on Turf, the question remains, have the Rams found a winning combo in Jeff Fischer, Sam Bradford and Daryl Richardson?
