After weeks of speculation, sources confirm that Manchester United FC and Arsenal FC have agreed on a transfer fee for Dutch striker Robin van Persie. Multiple reports are claiming that the 4 year deal is worth anywhere from £22m to £24m. The 29-year-old will undergo a medical at United in the next 48 hours and discuss personal terms with the club.
United beat out competition from Manchester City and Juventus for last season’s double Footballer of the Year. The reported price tag is a bit higher than United skipper Sir Alex Ferguson’s £15m limit, which is understood to be the initial payment.
Manchester United lost last season’s league title race to Manchester City on a wildly heartbreaking final matchday, and are clearly ready to make any moves necessary to be back on top come next season’s end. Signing last year’s best goalscorer isn’t a bad start.
