Washington Nationals pitcher Gio Gonzalez pitched six scoreless innings and added a solo home run in the Nats 3-0 win over the Miami Marlins Wednesday.
A very impressive performance, no doubt, but it was Gonzalez’s post-game analysis of his own pitching that really capped off a great night. MASN broadcaster Bob Carpenter asked Gonzalez if pitching in the low temperatures was difficult, and this was Gonzalez’s answer:
“It was definitely difficult, especially with this cold weather,” he said. “It was tough to get a grip. I felt like I was making love to my hand. Just one of those things where I was constantly trying to find some grip, somehow, some way. The rosin bag, whatever, licking the fingers. But it felt good after that.”
Gold. I really hope Gonzalez drops more of these post-game gems this season.
