Last year, Reebok teamed up with rapper Kendrick Lamar and the pairing made a video that took people “on a journey through Kendrick’s hometown – Compton.”
Now, the two have made a sneaker that echoes that journey.
On Tuesday, images of Kendrick’s very own sneaker – a Reebok Ventilator with a white suede upper that has “Blue” inscribed on the heel of one sneaker and “Red” inscribed on the other and a beautiful gum sole – were finally unveiled.
There is little mistaking these are influenced heavily by Kendrick. The “Red” and “Blue” motif is a reference to the gang culture in Compton while the tongue tabs that say “NEUTRAL” speak to a more unifying theme than the red and blue labeling may suggest at first glance. Lamar’s signature can be found on the tongue and on the insoles as well.
There’s no word on a US release yet but Europe should start seeing the collaboration in stores on July 18th for €130 EUR (around $142).
Check out some more pics of the pretty great looking sneaker below.
UPDATE 7/10: Per Sole Collector, the Kendrick Lamar x Reebok Ventilator “Neutral” will be hitting retailers on July 18th. The sneakers will cost $125 for a pair.
