Earlier this month, President Barack Obama visited Nike’s headquarters in Beaverton, Oregon to discuss international trade.
With such a high-profile guest coming to their campus, Nike came prepared with an awesome gift. Nike CEO Mark Parker told Bloomberg TV that Nike gifted the President the world’s first “Jordan MTM” sneaker collaboration (“MTM” stands for the three people who were responsible for designing the sneakers: Mark Parker, Tinker Hatfield and Michael Jordan).
On Friday, images of the Jordan “MTM” collection that the President got before anyone else arrived online at The New York Times Style Magazine. It features an Air Jordan 1 constructed out of the Air Jordan XX9’s FlyWeave material and an Air Jordan XX9 made out leather like the Air Jordan 1.
The modernized Air Jordan 1 doesn’t look too great (the weave tech doesn’t flatter the 1’s silhouette at all) but the leathered-out Air Jordan XX9 looks absolutely amazing in a minimalist sort of way.
While the President got his pairs for free, everyone else will have to pony up a sizable amount of cash for the two-pair release. The MTM pack will be available at Nike Lab P75 in Paris on June 13th and will be distributed at select Jordan retailers on June 26th. The two pairs of shoes will cost $700 as a pack.
