Earlier in July, there were some reports that stated that the first two colorways of the Jordan XX9 would be releasing on September 3rd (the black and white colorway with elephant print) and September 13th (the orange colorway with the large Jumpman logo).
However, Jordan Brand is now stating that the latest Air Jordan, in both colorways, will release on September 6th.
The sneaker should still see plenty of action before the official release date. Nike has a host of basketball camps and summer events during which the company will allow the public to test out the shoe.
“This year we shifted the launch of the game shoe to September to better serve performance basketball players, who are at the center of everything we do,” Brian O’Connor, VP Global Brand Jordan Marketing told SLAM on Monday. “Before consumers can buy the shoe on September 6, we wanted to create opportunities for them to try the shoe, and experience firsthand what it’s like to take flight in the Air Jordan XX9.”
While they may not look particularly flashy, the Air Jordan XX9 represents Jordan Brand’s increasing efforts to tailor their signature basketball shoe towards performance over fashion. The XX9 is the first signature Jordan model that will be composed of a woven upper (similar to Nike’s flyknit technology) which could theoretically support any number of designs and colorways.
For those who are curious about what the model looks like on foot, Russell Westbrook wore the Air Jordan XX9 during last season’s NBA playoffs.
