A pair of sneakers that Michael Jordan wore for the 1984 Olympic Games will be going up for auction on June 5th.
The sneakers were apparently signed and gifted to a Team USA ball boy by MJ himself after the gold medal ceremeny according to auction site Grey Flannel Auctions.
The sneakers were made by Converse, come in a white and blue colorway and have Jordan’s signature running along the side of the upper.
And for those who like a little sneaker history to go with their basketball history, the 1984 Olympics marked the last time that Michael Jordan would be spotted on a court without a Swoosh on his kicks.
This was the last time that Jordan would play a competitive game in a non-Nike product, as he would forgo his senior year at UNC and enter the 1985 NBA draft.
The auction’s description notes that it can’t verify which games that Jordan wore the sneakers, but it does say that the “sneakers were no doubt worn by Jordan during the Olympic Games.”
If you want these shoes (calling them Jordans would just be wrong), it will cost a pretty penny.
The starting bid for this pair of sneakers is $50,000. Considering that a pair of Michael Jordan’s worn Nike Air Ships from his rookie season recently went for $71,553, the $50,000 starting bid may not actually be that outrageous.
