Duke and Coach K haters must have had a rough week. Following the 35th-year head coach’s 1,000th career victory last Sunday and the Blue Devils’ huge win at Virginia on Saturday, the love for Division-I’s second-longest tenured coach was maybe at an all-time high during the regular season.
Mike Krzyzewski took over the Blue Devils before the 1980-81 season and while many were curious what the former Army coach could do in Durham, not one single person could have predicted he would be running strong in year No. 35.
Krzyzewski might not hold the crown as the nation’s longest tenured coach, with that honor belonging to Syracuse’s Jim Boeheim, but he easily holds the crown for longest tenured coach currently sitting in the Associated Press Top 25 .
As Coach K and the Dukies continue their quest for the program’s 16th Final Four and fifth national title, let’s re-rank this week’s AP Top 25 by the coaches who have been at their current school for the least number of consecutive seasons to those that have been at the helm the longest.
