Dr. Beach is Florida International University professor Stephen Leatherman and he has traveled the country studying beaches for 25 years. Yes, THAT’s a job! He uses about 50 criteria to rank the beaches he studies, including sewage, which really puts a damper on any beach experience. Also on his list are safety, tides, accessibility, smell, wildlife and seaweed, to name a few. So, if you are planning a summer vacay, and want a beach without human feces, garbage, and the fear of dying in a rip current, these are the beaches for you.
