Apparently Bono is not a fan of baseball or he wouldn’t have let this happen. A three-game series between the Florida Marlins and Mariners which was scheduled to be played in Miami on June 24-26 has now been forced to move to Seattle because of a U2 concert.
According to MLB.com the MLB announced that “due to a scheduling conflict, the Marlins now will be playing their Interleague series with the Mariners in Seattle.” Major League Baseball announced the change on Thursday, when it revealed the official times for games in 2011. Bono and U2 are the culprits.
MLB has stated that the Marlins will be the home team for all three games, and the series will be played under National League rules. So pitchers will bat, rather than the designated hitter being used.
“What happened was U2 had to reschedule for a year later, and the baseball schedule was such that there was no other way to have us at home that series,” Marlins president David Samson said. “We obviously couldn’t play at home, because we don’t control the stadium. For one final season, we are tenants.
“So we worked closely with baseball for an alternate venue. The best and only solution was to play the games in Seattle.”
