Following the ending of the World Cup’s first game, ESPN cut to some U.S. Open coverage which featured a very out-of-place looking Chris Berman. After a very few short minutes it was clear that it was an odd fit, at best. Immediately Twitter started to lay into ESPN’s choice to have Berman cover golf. The results were mean and quite hilarious.
Having Chris Berman announce the US Open is like taking a drill to your temple

Warning: Chris Berman now appearing on TV. My advice: Take a walk, come back in a few minutes, hope someone distracted him with a balloon.

The vomiting type noise that Chris Berman just made echoes throughout the country.

Chris Berman on now to muck up a great broadcast. Great time to take a break from the TV I guess.

Is there a more "adult swim's over, your turn, young people!" ESPN thing than Chris Berman hosting a US Open tossing to a World Cup opener?
— Steve Lepore (@stevelepore) June 12, 2014
Now for Chris Berman, the Japanese referee of golf announcing.

You can't transition from that to Chris Berman announcing golf.
— Eric Freeman (@freemaneric) June 12, 2014
From perhaps one of ESPN's greatest broadcasting triumphs to Chris Berman hosting golf. A precipitous drop.

What a difference going from the play-by-play of Ian Darke on soccer to Chris Berman on golf. And not in a good way.
— Jeff Gluck (@jeff_gluck) June 12, 2014
What horrific crimes against humanity were committed to force us to have to listen to Chris Berman commentate golf? #USOpen

When Chris Berman is trending it's not because people are excited about him calling a sporting event.
— Blaise Miller (@BlaiseInKC) June 12, 2014
I actually like watching golf but not when Chris Berman is involved.

I think I'd rather listen to the emergency alert system 10,000 times in a row over listening to Chris Berman announce golf.

Excited for @usopengolf on @espn but wish #ChrisBerman was not in booth. @PGATOUR is not the place for his voice or personality. #USOpen

Chris Berman's contribution to golf announcing "maybe he should blow on the ball, that might help" #TimeForMute
— Scott Manson (@scott_manson17) June 12, 2014
Chris Berman on the #USOpenGolf is the WORST….#mute
— Jake Niebrugge (@jnieb49) June 12, 2014
I love Chris Berman, but he has no business commentating the US Open
— Aaron Wilson (@atw2592) June 12, 2014
It does not get any worse than going from the announcing of Sir Ian Darke to that of the ESPN court fool Chris Berman.
