It might be extremely difficult for a person, event or other side story to upstage one of the country’s largest sporting events, the Final Four, but Indiana’s Religious Freedom Restoration Act is coming awfully close. After Indiana governor Mike Pence signed the bill last week, we’ve seen millions of reactions, with the heavy majority of people being vehemently opposed to the law that allows business to deny service to same-sex couples.
Included in the reactions are those from high-powered organizations, with particular attention being paid to the Indianapolis-based NCAA. The city is hosting the 2015 men’s Final Four and is slated to host the 2016 women’s Final Four but many are calling for the intercollegiate athletics governing body to move the events and the headquarters from the state in response to the bill. There are additional calls for professional sports teams and large corporations to leave the state.
ESPN’s Keith Olbermann is one of those calling for all of the above and made his argument with a fantastic 12-minute monologue on Monday. It’s well worth your time to watch the entire segment.
