In addition to being the best player in pro basketball, trying to single-handedly save Cleveland sports, and having his very own phone app, LeBron James is also looking to conquer television.
In addition to a show that he is developing for Starz, LeBron will be producing another show, “Becoming”, for Disney. “Becoming” will chronicle the trials and tribulations that professional athletes faced growing up in order to inspire kids who may be going through the same sorts of issues.
In a statement, LeBron focused on how learning about the lives of athletes he admired helped him become the man he is today:
“I’m really excited about helping develop ‘Becoming’ and bringing this kind of program to kids,” James said in a statement to ESPN.com. “Sports and athletes were my inspiration growing up. It was the stories about Michael Jordan, Deion Sanders, and Allen Iverson that kept me dreaming. When I learned that they had some of the same struggles and challenges I did, it made everything seem possible. That’s what ‘Becoming’ is all about.”
The show will premiere on October 26th on Disney XD. The first episode will, fittingly, focus on LeBron and his childhood. If it’s half as good as LeBron is on the basketball court, the series will undoubtedly get picked up for not one, not two, not three… OK, let’s not jinx it.
