Jurassic World is set to be released next summer and we still don’t have a whole lot of confirmed details about the fourth installment of the Jurassic Park franchise yet other than that Chris Pratt will have the lead role. The film released it’s first poster last month and, while gorgeous, it doesn’t give us a whole lot to work with:
On the topic of Jurassic posters, legendary poster artist John Alvin – who was commissioned to create art for the franchise’s first film back in 1993 – will be the subject of a book released later this month. The Art of John Alvin will take a look back at some of the artist’s best work – as well as some of his unfinished and unused pieces – in a retrospective collection released by his widow, Andrea, on August 26th. Alvin is responsible for over 100 movie posters, some of which have become iconic imagery that we imagine when we think of the classic movies of the last 4 decades. His career began with Mel Brooks’ 1974 film Blazing Saddles. His posters include E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, Blade Runner, Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast, The Little Mermaid, The Lion King, The Color Purple, Gremlins and the anniversary posters for Star Wars. Alvin’s last work was on Disney’s Enchanted, released a year before his death after suffering a bout of myocardial infarction.
IGN managed to get their hands on several of Alvin’s unused Jurassic Park posters, which have been released to help promote the release of the book. Some were clearly created in the early stages of the film’s development, some were never finished, and some are pretty damn spectacular. Take a look at the collection by clicking through:
