Peter Farrelly, one half of the Farrelly Brothers duo that has directed cult classic comedies such as Dumb & Dumber and There’s Something About Mary, did a Reddit AMA today, where he revealed that one of the most famous scenes from Dumb & Dumber was pretty much completely unplanned.
When asked whether or not any of the movie’s scenes were ad-libbed, Farrelly responded:
One line that was definitely ad libbed is the Big Gulp line. In fact, the two guys he was talking to weren’t even extras, they were just hanging out, watching us shoot and I decided to pull them in. They happened to have Big Gulps and Jim just ran with it. True story.
And you thought that scene couldn’t get any greater, did ya?
