At the premiere party for Run the Jewels new album, RTJ2, Nas surprised everyone by previewing a new track produced by the late great J Dilla. RTJ2 came out on Nas’ Mass Appeal label, so when he showed up to congratulate the duo he wanted to make it a little extra special. At first it was released as a quick preview, but now we have the full studio version.
“The Season” uses Dilla’s “Gobstopper” beat and Nas pays homage to the Detroit beatmaker throughout the track. Currently celebrating the 20th anniversary of Illmatic, Nas is also back in the studio working on a new album that will hopefully follow in the same footsteps as this vintage sounding track.
