It’s been more than 15 years since we’ve gotten a Major League film (and 20 since we’ve gotten a good one) but, according to legendary broadcaster Bob Uecker, the series’ fourth installment is likely on the horizon.
Though details are scarce, Uecker – who serves as play-by-play announcer for the Brewers in real life and portrays wacky broadcaster Harry Doyle in the Major League films – says that the film is in the works.
“I’ll be honest with you, they’re talking about it,” Uecker said, according to Milwaukee Brewers beat writer Adam McCalvy. “The storyline is all set, too. They’ve already asked me if I would be in for Major League IV, and I told them I would. I’ve talked to the directors. They’re talking about it and they’re pretty serious, but that’s all I can tell you, really. If there was more, I would tell you that, too. They have been talking about it for the last year-plus. As a matter of fact, they called me during the season last year and asked me if I would be in.”
Uecker not only seems optimistic that the film will be made, but also that it will be much better than the last installment in the series.
“Major League III stunk, so Major League IV I’m sure is going to be better than Major League III, which they sold to a different company,” Uecker said. “That thing was on airplanes the day after we finished it.”
It’ll be interesting to see if the film actually gets greenlit and, if so, which stars will be brought back to reprise their roles. Let’s just hope Charlie Sheen, who starred as the ‘Wild Thing’ Ricky Vaughn, doesn’t have to pass a drug test to get back on the mound.
