The always-fantastic Katie Nolan published a special Tuesday edition of her ‘No Filter’ YouTube series for FOX Sports, one that took on the idea of a proposed boycott of the NFL in protest of commissioner Roger Goodell and his handling of the Ray Rice saga.
In what might be her best video to-date, Nolan – a huge football fan – presents her views not only as female NFL consumer, but also discusses the impact of women’s portrayal within the world of sports media, something she knows quite well.
“Women in sports media are allowed to read headlines, patrol sidelines, and generally facilitate conversation for their male colleagues. Sometimes they even let us monitor the Internet from a couch. And while Stephen A. Smith’s, Mike Francesa’s, Dan Patrick’s and Keith Olbermann’s of the world get to weigh in on the issues of the day, we just smile and throw to commercial.
…
“It’s time for the conversation to change, or at least those participating in the conversation. It’s time for women to have a seat at the big boy table, and not where their presence is a gimmick or a concept, just a person who happens to have breasts offering their opinion on the sports they love and the topics they know. Because, the truth is the NFL will never respect women and their opinions as long as the media it answers to doesn’t. I’m ready when you are, FOX.”
It’s hard to say it any better than that, really. Outstanding stuff.
