One of the biggest surprises in music this past year is the ascension of Cardi B. She has had multiple hits on the Billboard Top 100.
For those unaware, this is the description of the rapper on Wikipedia:
Cardi B, is an American rapper, singer, songwriter, and media personality. Born and raised in The Bronx, New York, she first attracted attention for discussing her career as a stripper on social media; coupled with her “no filter attitude”, she became an Internet celebrity through Instagram.
From 2015 to 2017, she appeared as a regular cast member on the VH1 reality television series Love & Hip Hop: New York. In February 2017, she signed her first major label record deal with Atlantic Records. Her debut single for Atlantic, titled “Bodak Yellow”, reached number one on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart. She has worked with artists such as Migos, Bruno Mars, 21 Savage, and Juicy J.
She is new on the scene but she is anywhere and everywhere already. She performed for a Super Bowl pre-show and a person from TMZ caught up with her to ask about the big game. They asked if she would ever perform at the Super Bowl if asked. Her response caught a few off guard. “When they hire Colin Kaepernick back,” she said.
The controversy surrounding Kaepernick is well documented. He didn’t take a snap this year after he drew headlines last season for taking a knee during the National Anthem. It is fascinating to see a popular artist come out and say that they wouldn’t perform during the halftime show. This controversy has had legs that people could’ve never imagined.
As Kaepernick remains unemployed, the headline will still linger.
