Caitlyn Jenner may face up to a year in jail for the manslaughter charge of the death of Kim Howe, 69. The sheriff’s department will present recommendations to the district attorney’s office by next week and will recommend the misdemeanor charge, which carries a sentence of one year in jail, according to the Associated Press.
Jenner was driving on the Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu on Feb. 7, and investigators found that she was neither driving impaired nor was she texting or speeding at the time of the accident. She was, however, “driving in a manner unsafe for the prevailing road conditions,” rear-ending Howe’s Lexus onto incoming traffic.
The crash occurred prior to Jenner’s gender reconstruction, and the 1976 Olympic Decathlon Champion and Kim Kardashian’s stepfather was recently awarded the Arthur Ashe award for courage at the 2015 ESPY Awards. Nicole Nishida, a Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department spokesperson stated that her case will be up for review next week, and that the district attorney’s office will ultimately decide Jenner’s charges.
