With a few great exclusive TV series under their belt already, Netflix is pushing hard to land exclusive movie deals…and they seem to be succeeding. According to Variety, comedian Adam Sandler has signed a deal with the streaming service to star in and produce four films to be released exclusively on Netflix.
The first movie under the pact could arrive as soon as 2015. Sandler’s Happy Madison Prods. will work with Netflix to develop the four films — presumably comedies, although the genres aren’t set in stone. The Netflix deal does not cover Sandler’s current studio film commitments.

“When these fine people came to me with an offer to make four movies for them, I immediately said ‘yes’ for one reason and one reason only… Netflix rhymes with ‘wet chicks,’” Sandler said in a prepared statement. “Let the streaming begin!”
It’s an intriguing deal given that Netflix is still new producing exclusive films, and it’s certainly one that will attract the attention of a lot of customers because of Sandler’s star power. But given his recent body of work, I’m hesitant to get too excited about the news.
