A sequel to 1994’s cult classic Dumber and Dumber is back on, as reported first by Deadline and later confirmed by the Farrelly brothers, who will direct the film.
After Warner Bros. dropped the rights to Dumb and Dumber To, which had been in limbo for quite some time, Universal Pictures immediately picked it up and are looking to move quickly on the project.
Peter and Bobby Farrelly, the brothers who directed the original, will return for the sequel, as will Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels to reprise their starring roles. The Farrelly brothers did a rewrite on the original script, which was penned by Sean Anders and John Morris, who co-wrote “Hot Tub Time Machine” and “She’s Out of My League.”
It’ll be interesting to see how this project turns out. They’ve got some solid names behind the script but it will be hard to match the brilliance of the original (one of the funniest movies of all-time, in my opinion), especially now that Carrey and Daniels are 20 years older.
