It seems like the Florida State Seminoles still have some hard feelings about being left out of the College Football Playoff this past season. But according to SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey, they have no right to be upset with the decision.
Florida State was famously overlooked in favor of Alabama, the SEC Champions, for the final CFP spot this past season. The Georgia Bulldogs were also in the mix, as their only loss came to Alabama in the SEC Championship game.
All three teams had a real argument for the final spot. But in the eyes of many around the college football world, Florida State perhaps had the best argument as the only undefeated team of the bunch.
Sankey feels different, ripping Florida State for their public frustration about the decision on a recent radio appearance, even saying that Georgia perhaps had a better argument to be in over Florida State.
“Georgia was one of the best four teams and didn’t get in (the Playoff),” said Sankey, which was transcribed by Matt Hayes of Saturday Down South on X. “But you didn’t see us jumping up and down and complaining and hanging national championship banners.”
SEC commish Greg Sankey on @1010XL: "Georgia was one of the best four teams (in the nation) and didn't get in (the Playoff). But you didn't see us jumping up and down and complaning and hanging national championship banners."
A not so subtle shot at FSU.

Georgia was indeed considered to be one of the best teams in the country prior to their loss to Alabama. So Sankey does have a bit of an argument here.
Still, it is a bit of an unnecessary dig at FSU here, who has every right to feel like they were snubbed last year. Regardless, this kind of situation won’t happen again after the expansion to 12 teams for the 2025 CFP.
