When legendary Alabama Crimson Tide head coach Nick Saban announced his abrupt retirement from coaching following the 2024 college football season, there were several top players who opted to leave the program in search of opportunities at different schools. Starting quarterback Jalen Milroe was not one of those players, and one opposing coach thinks he made the right decision.
During a recent interview with Athlon Sports, one anonymous SEC assistant coach offered his take on Jalen Milroe deciding to stay at Alabama for another season under new head coach Kalen DeBoer as he made it clear that he thinks it was a “no-brainer” decision for the quarterback to stay and work with DeBoer this season.
“There’s so much change that it’s hard to know how to scout them right now. The biggest win is keeping [quarterback Jalen] Milroe around; that was a no-brainer for him after watching what that staff was able to get out of [Michael] Penix [Jr.],” the anonymous SEC assistant coach told Athlon Sports.
Obviously, DeBoer helped develop Penix into one of the most dominant quarterbacks in the entire country. We’ll have to see how Milroe develops during this season under DeBoer and performs for the Crimson Tide this season.
