When former Ohio State Buckeyes quarterback Kyle McCord entered the NCAA transfer portal earlier this month, most assumed that the Buckeyes would be seeking a quarterback out of the transfer portal. But in a pretty surprising turn of events, it sounds like head coach Ryan Day is happy with the quarterbacks already on the team’s roster.

During a recent press conference, Ryan Day claimed that Ohio State would have a “healthy” competition between quarterbacks Devin Brown, Lincoln Keinholz and Air Noland, but revealed that he was particularly “fired up” by the way that quarterback Brown has been performing in practice leading up to the Cotton Bowl matchup with the Missouri Tigers.

“I think that competition is very, very healthy,” Day said according to Cleveland.com. “I think Lincoln’s really been coming on and looked good. We’re excited to see Air get going here the spring.

“But, fired up to see the way Devin’s been practicing the last few weeks. It’s been great for him, now that he’s healthy. His ankle was feeling better and it was kind of like, ‘OK, take this thing and run and see how the next couple of weeks go in terms of the way he handles himself.’”

Brown will be the team’s starter against Missouri in the Cotton Bowl, giving a chance to prove himself on the field ahead of next season’s quarterback battle.
