The College Football Playoff Committee shocked the world earlier this week when they placed the Alabama Crimson Tide in the playoffs over the Florida State Seminoles.
Many were shocked because the Seminoles were undefeated champions of the Atlantic Coastal Conference while the Tide had lost to the Texas Longhorns, a fellow playoff participant.
Governor Ron DeSantis, who currently trails Donald Trump for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination, isn’t about to take that sleight lying down.
On Wednesday, he asked the state legislature for $1 million in an earmark to sue the College Football Playoff Committee.
“My first-grader, my fifth-grader and my preschooler … they are all ‘noles and they are big-time fans and they do the tomahawk chop and they were not happy,” DeSantis said, according to the Associated Press “We are going to set aside $1 million and let the chips fall where they may.”
DeSantis has been vocal in his outrage.
“What we learned today is that you can go undefeated and win your conference championship game, but the College Football Playoff committee will ignore these results,” DeSantis wrote on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, earlier this week. “Congratulations to @FSUFootball on an outstanding season and winning the ACC championship!”
As of now, it’s unclear if the Florida State Legislature will heed the request of the governor.
