Though Ohio State Buckeyes head coach Ryan Day has one of the best records of any college football head coach since taking over for Urban Meyer in Columbus, he has struggled to meet lofty expectations in recent years, going three consecutive seasons without a win over Michigan or a Big Ten championship. And that has college football expert Paul Finebaum concerned about his future in Columbus.
This week, Paul Finebaum called out Ryan Day for how unpopular he is among Ohio State fans these days.
“The coach I am more concerned about right now more than anyone is Ryan Day,” Finebaum said on ESPN according to On3. “Don’t throw up his gaudy record. I’m well aware of what he has done. But his popularity — he looks like a busted stock on Wall Street.”
Day has lost three consecutive games against Michigan, which has Ohio State fans restless. Finebaum thinks that if that happens again this coming season, he could find himself on the hot seat – especially if it comes to a first-year head coach with Jim Harbaugh likely headed to the NFL.
“Should he lose to the new coach at Michigan, whoever that is, this guy has got problems,” Finebaum said.
We’ll have to see how things go for Day and the Buckeyes next season.
