It appears that yet another star player is departing a top SEC program to transfer to the Ohio State Buckeyes.
Last year, Ohio State successfully brought in Caleb Downs and Seth McLaughlin from Alabama, as well as Quinshon Judkins from Ole Miss, and all three players were immediately successful with the Buckeyes.
Downs earned unanimous All-American honors this season, McLaughlin received the Rimington Trophy as the nation’s best center, and Judkins has solidified himself as one of the premier running backs in college football.
Now, it seems Ohio State is once again securing a talented player from the SEC.
2023 five-star EDGE Damon Wilson entered the transfer portal this week, and, according to two national recruiting insiders at On3 Sports, he is reportedly heading to Ohio State.
“On3’s [Pete Nakos] and [Steve Wiltfong] have logged predictions for Ohio State to land Georgia transfer EDGE Damon Wilson,” On3 wrote in a post on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter. “The class of 2023 five-star recruit recorded 22 tackles and 3 sacks this season.”
While Wilson has not officially confirmed this news, Nakos and Wiltfong have a reliable history of providing accurate information, making this move widely anticipated.
The Buckeyes are set to lose their top defensive ends, J.T. Tuimoloau and Jack Sawyer, who are both heading to the NFL Draft and out of eligibility after this season. Additionally, Ohio State faces a significant lack of depth and proven talent at the position due to some recruiting setbacks in recent years.
Wilson, regarded as one of the best edge prospects in college football, seems like a logical addition for both parties involved.
We’ll have to wait and see when the transfer is finalized and how he ultimately performs with the Buckeyes.
