For the second straight season, it sounds like another star player is leaving a top SEC program to transfer to the Ohio State Buckeyes.
Last year, Ohio State landed Caleb Downs and Seth McLaughlin out of Alabama as well as Quinshon Judkins out of Ole Miss. Downs was a unanimous All-American this season while McLaughlin won the Rimington Trophy, given to the nation’s top center. Meanwhile, Judkins has emerged as one of the top running backs in the country.
And it sounds like Ohio State is once again plucking a talented player from the SEC.
2023 five-star EDGE Damon Wilson entered the transfer portal this week, and according to two national recruiting insiders at On3 Sports, it sounds like he is headed to Ohio State.
“On3’s [Pete Nakos] and [Steve Wiltfong] have logged predictions for Ohio State to land Georgia transfer EDGE Damon Wilson,” On3 said in a post on X, the social media website that was formerly known as Twitter. “The class of 2023 five-star recruit recorded 22 tackles and 3 sacks this season.”
Obviously, Wilson has not confirmed this news himself, but both Nakos and Wiltfong have a strong track record of good information and accurate predictions, so this move is widely expected to happen.
The Buckeyes are losing their top defensive ends after this season with J.T. Tuimoloau and Jack Sawyer heading to the NFL Draft and out of eligibility. Ohio State also has an extreme lack of depth and proven talent at the position as a result of some recruiting misses in the past several recruiting cycles.
Wilson, meanwhile, is one of the top edge prospects in college football. So obviously, this move seems to make sense for both parties.
We’ll have to see when the move becomes finalized and how he ultimately performs with the Buckeyes.
