The Ohio State Buckeyes made a pretty big transfer portal addition when the team signed former Kansas State Wildcats starting quarterback Will Howard following the departure of previous starting quarterback Kyle McCord, who transferred to Syracuse. But while Howard is the presumptive starter for the Buckeyes, he knows he’s going to have to earn the role.

As the quarterbacks prepare for an offseason quarterback competition, Will Howard has a leg up on anybody else in the quarterbacks room with the amount of experience he has at the college level, but he’ll still have to earn the spot over five-star freshmen Air Noland and Julian Sayin, who just transferred from Alabama, as well as returning players Lincoln Keinholz and Devin Brown.

“We definitely talked about it,” Howard said according to Eleven Warriors. “We’re all here to compete and we’re all here to help the Buckeyes win. That’s all we’re here for. That was made evident when I came on my visit and the thing that I’m most fired up about is how good the dudes in the room are and how good they’ve been to me.”

Howard will likely be Ohio State’s starting quarterback next season when all is said and done, but he knows he’s going to have to earn it in practice.
