The Alabama Crimson Tide did not get off to a particularly strong start to the 2023 college football season, struggling in their first few games before losing to the Texas Longhorns. But the team has improved throughout the season to the point that head coach Nick Saban thinks it might be the most improved team he’s ever coached.

Nick Saban compared the improvement that he’s seen in this team to the improvement he saw from the team in 2014, which ultimately won the national title.

“We’ve never had a team, in my opinion, maybe there was [2014-2015] team when Jake Coker was the quarterback when we started out real shaky, in the beginning,” Saban said according to On3. “We unsettled at quarterback, and then he became the main quarterback and we actually ended up winning a national championship. I think that besides that team, this team is one of the most improved groups that we’ve ever had in terms of their passion, the fun that they have, the practice, focusing on trying to improve.

“This team has went through a total transition as a football team in terms of their confidence, their ability to execute their faith, trust and confidence in each other. We really just became a team over time.”

Despite the slow start to the season, Alabama has a chance to win the SEC Championship this weekend with a game against the Georgia Bulldogs and potentially earn a spot in the College Football Playoff.
