The Michigan Wolverines are in the midst of an NCAA investigation into allegations of illegal sign stealing, but that’s not stopping the College Football Playoff selection committee from ranking the Wolverines in their weekly rankings.
This week, Michigan checked in at No. 3 in the latest College Football Playoff rankings after a win over the Purdue Boilermakers, despite the current investigation. And College Football Playoff committee chairman Boo Corrigan made it clear that the committee intends to keep ranking Michigan as long as the team is eligible to compete in the postseason.
“Once again, and not to be repetitive in this, our mission as a committee is to judge the teams that are eligible for postseason,” Corrigan said after the CFP reveal show. “Until something changes in that, we’re going to continue to follow that track and make sure that we’re following the protocols. Again, this is not a CFP selection committee issue.”
It’s clear that regardless of the pending investigation, the committee will continue to rank the Wolverines based on how they perform on the field. And Michigan will have a big chance to bolster that ranking this week with a game against the Penn State Nittany Lions in Happy Valley.
