With Quinn Ewers officially entering the NFL Draft, Arch Manning is set to take over as the starting quarterback of the Texas Longhorns, and Heisman Trophy winner Johnny Manziel recently gave his honest thoughts on the situation.
During a recent interview with The Action Network, Johnny Manziel did not hold back his true thoughts on the situation as Arch Manning takes over for Quinn Ewers as he made it clear that he thinks Manning has some big shoes to fill.
“I think this is what all the Texas fans want. This is what the clamoring and all the hoopla you’ve been hearing all year from them is to put Arch in,” Manziel told The Action Network. “So now they get their chance.”
“Obviously, he’s really highly touted. He’s played sparingly here at times,” Manziel said. “It’s gonna be really interesting to see how he comes in and handles his Texas program.”
Manning obviously is taking over for Ewers, who went 27-9 in his career as a starter and led Texas to back-to-back appearances in the College Football Playoff semifinal.
“For all the hate that Quinn does get, he led that team really, really well – got them back to the college football semifinal back to back years and a lot of wins in Austin,” Manziel said. “I can think back to 10, 12 years ago. Texas wasn’t in this position to have a guy like Quinn Ewers.”
While Manziel obviously thinks Manning has a lot to live up to, he also thinks the Longhorns are in a pretty good spot moving forward with Manning.
“Now you go from Quinn Ewers to Arch Manning,” Manziel said. “Things at the quarterback position in Austin are looking pretty good for them so far, but we’ll see how it goes next year.”
